Thai media outlets have widely reported, expressing surprise at Vietnam’s modern new stadium, viewing it as a major advancement in regional football infrastructure.
Thai media clearly show astonishment at the scale and ambition of Vietnamese football. when Ho Chi Minh City officially broke ground on the Rach Chiec Stadium project, regarded as a significant milestone in the country’s sports infrastructure.
According to regional football websites, the Rach Chiec stadium project draws attention not only for its seating capacity of up to 75,000 but also for its total investment amounting to 5.5 billion USD (equivalent to 143 trillion VND), a rare figure for a sports facility in Southeast Asia. Thai media consider this a signal that Vietnam is rapidly accelerating its efforts to elevate football standards and its ability to host major continental sports events.
Notably, many Thai football fan pages and communities have widely shared information about this project, calling it a “new power statement” for Vietnamese sports. One notable post described the scale and development vision of Rach Chiec stadium as follows:
“Truly outstanding! Ho Chi Minh City has started construction of a new stadium with a capacity of 75,000 seats. On January 15, the Ho Chi Minh City government officially launched the project to build a new National Sports Center in the eastern area, officially named ‘Rach Chiec Stadium.’ The stadium will hold between 65,000 and 75,000 spectators, with a fully covered roof, meeting international standards with a modern design and surrounded by a green ecosystem. This is one of three major stadiums Vietnam aims to build to raise the national football level. This sports center is designed to host SEA Games, ASIAD, and many other international events in the future.”
According to Thai media analysis, Vietnam’s continuous investment in large-scale stadium projects shows a long-term football development strategy, focusing not only on sporting achievements but also on becoming a central sports hub in Southeast Asia. Amid increasingly fierce regional competition, Rach Chiec stadium is seen as a new symbol of Vietnam’s ambition to reach continental prominence in football.
