Xavi openly discusses the possibility of moving to England to manage MU

Man Utd has restarted its hunt for a new manager following the sacking of Ruben Amorim, with Xavi also expressing his thoughts about potentially taking charge of a team in England.

Man Utd confirmed Ruben Amorim’s dismissal on Monday, less than 24 hours after a disappointing 1-1 draw against Leeds. However, it was likely the Portuguese coach’s post-match remarks, criticizing some board members for neglecting their responsibilities, that proved to be the final straw.

Meanwhile, Xavi has a past connection with Man Utd’s CEO Omar Berrada from their time working together at Camp Nou before Berrada left Barcelona in 2011. The pair might reunite in England, where Xavi has expressed his readiness for a future role.

When asked about his prospects last year, Xavi told The Athletic: "Of course, there is a possibility. I don’t know where yet. I’m not in a hurry, but I want a solid project. A project where you have four years to work and build the team. I really want to work in the Premier League because I love the passion there. In Spain, everything is too result-oriented. Coaching a national team is also appealing. When I dreamed of becoming a coach, I hoped to participate in the World Cup or EURO."

Previously, Xavi was considered for the head coach role at Old Trafford when Erik ten Hag was dismissed in October 2024. Reports said Berrada led a delegation of four to Barcelona to directly negotiate with the Spanish coach.

More than a year later, Man Utd finds itself in a very similar situation, and Berrada might be trying to restart talks. If Xavi still aspires to manage a top English club, he understands that Man Utd is ready and interested in him.

Xavi began his coaching career at Al Sadd in Qatar before returning to Barcelona in November 2021 to take charge of the first team. During his tenure at the Catalan club, he made a significant impact by leading Barca to La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup titles in the 2022/23 season.

However, in the following season, Barcelona failed to win any trophies, and disagreements with the board grew more intense. This led to the World Cup 2010 champion’s decision to leave Camp Nou. Since departing Barca in summer 2024, the Spanish legend has not returned to coaching any team.
