Man Utd has been warned that if they appoint Gareth Southgate, the club must fulfill two conditions for the English manager.
According to The Sun, Gareth Southgate is seriously considering taking over as Man Utd’s head coach, but this comes with some challenging conditions.
Insiders reveal that the English manager will require patience and a long-term commitment from the club’s leadership, with a rebuilding plan spanning about four years. The coach, born in 1970, wants assurance that the club’s top management is ready to pursue long-term goals rather than demanding immediate results.
This information comes amid Man Utd’s recent decision to end the Ruben Amorim project. Doubts about the Portuguese coach’s future arose after a 1-1 draw against Leeds, when he hinted at leaving if unable to fulfill the remaining 18-month contract.
Although officially appointed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team in November 2024, Amorim still hoped to be recognized as the “manager” at Old Trafford. Ultimately, the 1985-born coach was dismissed after 14 months, and the club believes this change will improve Premier League results while keeping European qualification ambitions alive.
In fact, as early as October last year, while Amorim was still in charge, Southgate was mentioned as a potential candidate. However, he was reportedly concerned about the pressure to deliver instant success, which does not align with his philosophy of sustainable development. Southgate has not taken on a new role since leaving the England national team after Euro 2024, where the “Three Lions” finished as runners-up.
Besides Southgate, Man Utd is also considering several other options. Oliver Glasner from Crystal Palace and Fabian Hurzeler from Brighton are notable names, alongside legends like Zinedine Zidane and Xavi Hernandez, in the search for a new head coach at Old Trafford.
