Appearing on Ajax's official podcast, Ezra Walian confirmed he does not regret his decision to play for the Indonesian national team, viewing it as an important turning point in his career.
Forward Ezra Walian recently appeared on the official podcast of Ajax Amsterdam. There, the player currently with Persik Kediri stated he completely stands by his choice to play for Indonesia's national team.
Ezra Walian, a product of the renowned Ajax academy who once played for Jong Ajax youth team, officially obtained Indonesian citizenship on May 18, 2017. Since then, he has become part of Indonesian football and has been committed to playing in the Southeast Asian country's leagues.
“I have lived in Indonesia for about six years. My first time wearing the Indonesian national team jersey was in 2017, while I was still playing for Jong Ajax,” Ezra shared, quoting Ajax’s official Instagram page.
The 1997-born striker emphasized that his choice to represent Indonesia was a major but right career decision. “Honestly, I have never regretted it. It was a great step for me. Everything in Indonesia is very different from Europe, but I have never had even a single moment of regret,” Ezra asserted.
During the conversation, Ezra also spent a lot of time reflecting on his time with Ajax, a club that has played a significant role in his life since childhood. “For me, Ajax is a dream come true. I grew up in a family that loves Ajax and have been going to the stadium since I was very young,” he shared.
Ezra recalled the moment Ajax offered him a spot as one of the most memorable times in his career. “When Ajax asked if I wanted to join, that was truly the greatest moment in my football career. A dream came true,” he said.
When asked about former teammates who have become top European stars, Ezra expressed pride. He mentioned names like Abdelhak Nouri, Donny van de Beek, Frenkie de Jong, and Noussair Mazraoui — players who once played alongside him at Ajax.
“It’s special to look back at my generation. Many players have reached the global stage, and I feel lucky to have been part of that squad,” Ezra shared.
