Ruben Amorim made very candid remarks following Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Leeds, hinting at underlying issues within the club’s internal structure.
During the post-match press conference after the Leeds game, Ruben Amorim demanded greater control at Manchester United. The 40-year-old coach even cast uncertainty over his future at Old Trafford by stating he might leave the club after his 18-month contract expires if his demands are not met.
These statements followed Amorim’s earlier hints about internal troubles during the pre-match press conference, further exposing the tensions between him and INEOS.
“Everyone, please stop this. I realize you are receiving selective information about everything,” Amorim said.“I came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not just the head coach.”
“I understand I’m not Tuchel, Conte, or Mourinho, but I am the manager of MU. That will last for 18 months or until the board decides to make a change. That’s my stance. I want to close this chapter. I will not resign. I will do my job until someone else replaces me,” Amorim asserted firmly.
Amorim’s emphasis on being the manager rather than the head coach highlights how his authority and influence at Old Trafford are being limited. Notably, in the club’s announcement welcoming Amorim, Manchester United referred to him as head coach instead of manager, contrary to his own public claim.
Amid rumors of internal chaos at Manchester United, Amorim’s interviews act like “fuel to the fire,” intensifying concerns. Club legend Gary Neville also pointed out several unusual aspects during this press conference.
“There were some strange remarks about ‘I am the manager, not the head coach.’ I also spoke about Maresca before; when a coach starts playing these kinds of games in press conferences, it’s clear something is bothering him, he feels unsupported, and begins to give up,”Neville commented.
Neville also suggested this signals Amorim’s dissatisfaction with the leadership: “Everyone needs to read between the lines. To me, he’s unhappy about something at the top level.”
Just a few days ago, Enzo Maresca also made veiled comments about lacking support from Chelsea’s leadership before he was dismissed. Therefore, supporters of Amorim have valid reasons to worry about his future at Old Trafford.
