The debut goal of the young Vietnamese overseas player in the A-League excited not just Vietnamese fans but also ignited enthusiasm among Thai supporters.
Khoa Ngô was born on June 30, 2006, in Perth, Australia, to Vietnamese parents. He showed early football talent and trained at youth clubs such as Joondalup United and Perth RedStar before joining Perth Glory’s youth academy in 2020. Although only 1.65 meters tall, Khoa Ngô compensates with speed, individual skills, and excellent dribbling ability. He can effectively play as a winger, especially on the left flank, and is also capable of performing as an attacking midfielder or a wide forward when needed.
In the latest round of the A-League, Perth Glory played away against Melbourne Victory. Khoa Ngô came off the bench and quickly made an impact by scoring a goal to reduce the deficit to 2-3. It was an impressive sprint down the left wing followed by a precise finish from a tight angle, beating the opposing goalkeeper. Although Perth Glory could not avoid defeat, this goal held special significance because Khoa Ngô became the first Vietnamese-origin player to score in the A-League.
Soon after Khoa Ngô’s goal went viral, numerous notable comments appeared on Thai football forums. One Thai fan wrote: “Khoa Ngô is outstanding, exactly the type of speedy player Vietnam’s national team needs.”
Another fan commented: “Vietnam is scouting players abroad, and this name deserves close attention.”
In fact, many Thai fans openly urged: “He should play for Vietnam’s national team” or “Vietnam just needs to call him up to the national squad, no need to bring him back to play domestically, it would be a waste of talent.”
Before being promoted to the first team, Khoa Ngô impressed at Perth Glory NPL by scoring 13 goals in 45 matches. This form earned him his A-League debut in the 2023/24 season, and by the 2025/26 season, the 19-year-old has gained increasing trust from Perth Glory’s coach. After 11 rounds, Khoa Ngô has appeared in 6 matches, mostly coming off the bench to make an impact.
If he continues to improve at this pace, Khoa Ngô could definitely become a valuable reinforcement option for coach Kim Sang Sik in the future, just as Thai fans are discussing and cautiously noting. The goal scored in Australia might only be the beginning but it has already made Khoa Ngô a focal point in Southeast Asian football.
